Students
enter our graduate program because of a variety of reasons. They
may want to pursue a career in academia or a professional career
that requires additional training (e.g., consulting). Some want
to enhance their opportunities for promotion in their chosen profession,
or simply want to learn more about the exciting work going on
at the forefront of the field of biology.
The Biology Department
offers two graduate degrees: the Master of Science (with a thesis)
and the Masters of Arts (without a thesis) (see Degree
Requirements). Admission to the program is dependent on the
undergraduate GPA, GRE score and reference letters (see Admission
Requirements). Each year the Department has Teaching Assistant
positions for about eight graduate students, with each position
including salary and coverage of tuition (see Financial
Support). Click Here to access the application forms.
Graduate students
in biology can select from courses in Biology, Psychology and
Environmental Studies (see Courses).
After obtaining a graduate degree, our graduate students go on
to pursue Ph.D. degrees and get jobs in education and industry.

In cooperation with
the Geology Department, the Biology Department is also part of
the Environmental Studies Program. For more information about
