February 5, 2008---UT-Southwestern Medical School (Dr. Jim Wagner and current UT-Southwestern students). Free pizza!
February 8, 2008---Applications for full membership due
February 19, 2008---Dr. Peter LaNasa, Baylor-All Saints; CyberKnife Radiosurgery; Presidential candidates speak.
February 20-22, 2008---Election of Chapter President
March 5, 2008---Self Nominations due for rest of 08-09 exec
March 6-8, 2008---National AED Biennial Convention at DFW (Fire up for this one!!!)
March 18, 2008---THE TALK (Dr. Hartman's annual presentation about how to apply to Med/Dent/Vet Schools and statistics)
April 1, 2008---Senior panel

| August 28, 2007-Our first chapter meeting was a booming success, as exec (upper left) introduced themselves to a large audience (upper left). The featured speaker was Mr. Filo Maldonado, Associate Dean of Admissions at Texas A&M College of Medicine. Mr. Maldonado discussed the medical school interview (lower left) after first "mock" interviewing chapter president Sarah Stack (lower right). |

| September 3, 2007-The "Back-to-school brisket bash" was a wet one, as the skies opened up shortly before the bash began. Not to worry, as we shed our shoes (upper left) and consumed smoked brisket, pork, and a whole lot more (upper right) at Dr.& Mrs. Hartman's house. The rain eventually abated, which allowed some of us to enjoy the outside (lower left). The highlight was Megan Canady announcing the "big-little" pairings for the year (lower right). |

| September 11, 2007-Dr. Thomas Kleuser, an orthopedic surgeon, brought his "bag of goodies" (various tools of the trade) as he talked about his path through medical school, residency and the changing face of medicine. |

| October 9, 2007-Mr. Steve Newton, Chief Hospital Adminstrator of the Baylor/All-Saints Hospital System, spoke about the importance of providing compassionate care to all patients. He also discussed some of the current problems with health care delivery in the United States. |
 |

| October 13, 2007-Texas Zeta held it's annunal "Career Day" for high school students interested in the health professions. A variety of speakers addressed different aspects of the profession, including educational pathways. Upper left=the registration table is busy; Upper right=a panel of professionals (a medical resident; a PA; a physician; a dentist; a vet and a nurse) answer student questions; Middle upper left=a panel of current medical- and dental-school students discuss their experiences; middle upper right=a panel of current TCU premed students; Middle lower left=a panel of current TCU premedical students discusses the minority-studen experience; Middle lower right=nursing opportunties are articulated by two nursing students; Lower left=Students are treated to a suture clinic; Lower right=Justin and his mom celebrate a successful career day. |

| October 25, 2007-Texas Zeta teams up with TCU's Chemistry Club to host a Halloween party. The Army treated us to Schlozky's. After prizes were awarded for best costume, Gray's Anatomy was watched in the lecture hall. |

| November 6, 2007-Dr. D.J.Verret, discusses his path through medical school, residency and fellowship to become a facial plastic surgeon. |

| December 4, 2007-Dr. Frank Schuster gives a fascinating slide tour of the remarkable things that a plastic surgeon can accomplish. |

| December 9, 2007-Texas Zeta relaxes and eat at Dr. & Mrs. Hartman's house in preparation for a busy week of final exams. | January 22, 2008-Field trip to TCOM!!! About 45 Texas Zeta students visited the Texas College of Osteopathic Medicine, where we were treated to pizza and presentations by Joel Deboub, Director of Medical School Admissions, (left) and Dr. Bruce Durbin, Associate Dean, (right). Afterwards, we toured the facility. A great time was had be all!! |

| January 29, 2008-Dr. Elliot Trotter visits to talk about and encourage students to apply for the scribe program at Harris ER and several other hospitals. Now in its 12th year, the scribe program allows students to work one-on-one with Emergancy Physicians. This partnership has been a strength of our program through the years. |

| February 5, 2008-Dr. Jim Wagner, Associate Dean at UT-Southwestern Medical School, ventured to the better half of the metroplex to talk about clinical and basic science opportunities at UT-Southwestern. He was joined by current medical students Dallas Alvey, Marian (Dani) McRani, Heather Copeland, Joe Spellman and Anh Tran. Afterwards we were treated to pizza and more conversation. |

| March 6-8, 2008-Biennial National Convention of AED!!!! This entertaining and educational event was held in Grapevine, TX, and was attended by over 40 members of Texas Zeta, by far the most in the state. We received two, second-place awards (for attendance and programming for the biennium). A great time was had by all, as is partially evidenced by the photos below. |

| April 15, 2008-Texas Zeta initiation banquet is a rousing success and a great time. Thirty-six students were initiated into our chapter and we were treated to a wonderful after-dinner address by Dr. Helen Morrissette. (upper left-the new initiates line up before the ritual; upper left-Denise is initiated as an honorary member; lower left-Dr. Morrissette and Kamaria; lower right-our 2008-2009 exec-yikes on that leadership!!!) |

| April 22, 2008-Dr. Barbara Miller, Director of Student Recruitment at Baylor College of Medicines was the featured speaker at our last chapter meeting of the semester. Dr. Miller discussed career opportunities in dentistry, the application process to dental school and the curriculum at Baylor College of Dentistry. A grand finale! |

| April 27, 2008-The annual spring fling at Dr. & Mrs. Hartman's house was a success, despite some cool weather. Chicken fajitas (and a whole lot more food) as well as a piñata complemented conversation and merriment, providing a nice break from studies! |

| April 29, 2008-The second annual "TCU Night's at Cook" banquet is a rousing success! TCU Night's at Cook is a program in which Texas Zeta members play with hospitalized children in the evenings. This year over 104 students participated in the program. Our speaker Dr. Pearson discussed the emerging specialty of pediatric palliative care. We have been fortunate to have Kamaria Powell (right) guide the program for the last two years. She turns over the reins to Blake Health, who presented Kamaria with a well-deserved token of our appreciation. |
