Spring Semester:

January 24, 2006 -Texas Zeta's first meeting featured Dr. Jim Wagner, Associate Dean of Admissions from UT-Southwestern Medical School. Dr. Wagner was joined by a number of TCU alums who are current UTSW medical students. After a lively presentation and Q&A session, we adjoined to SWR258 for pizza.

February 7, 2006 -Field trip to TCOM!!! We ventured a few miles north to visit the medical school at the UNT Health Sciences Center (and eat pizza!). After an overview from Dr. Marc Hahn, Dean of Admissions, we were treated to tours.

February 21, 2006 -A busy meeting!! We heard about scholarship opportunities through the Navy; Texas Zeta candidates for the 2006-2007 exec spoke briefly; Dr. Elliot Trotter discussed the scribe program and invited applications to begin scribing this summer; and John Dribus from Kaplan spoke about the new, computer-based MCAT.

March 7 , 2006 -Another busy meeting!! Dr. Don Frischmann spoke about a summer opportunity to observe medicine in Mexico at UDLA. A Princeton Review representative also discussed the new rolling admissions/match process that 7 of the 8 Texas medical schools will use next year.

March 9-11, 2006 -Biennial convention in St. Louis. Over thirty Texas Zeta members, including faculty sponsor Dr. Phil Hartman and Academic Program Specialist Denise Bennett, attended the 36th National Biennial Convention of Alpha Epsilon Delta, the national prehealth honor society. In fact, Texas Zeta has more in attendance than all other Texas chapters combined. The meetings were outstanding, with a variety of keynote speakers and special interest sessions. Texas Zeta won both first place awards (convention attendance and programming for the biennium) for which we were eligible. This continues the tradition of dual first place awards at the 2000, 2002 and 2004 conventions. And we had a great, great time. Our thoughts and prayers are for the five members of Texas Alpha (U.T.) who lost their lives driving to convention.
